This year, I was selected to compete for the Netherlands on the women’s team for the third time. The World Team Cup took place from May 6th to 11th in Anatalya, Turkey. The women’s team consisted of Diede de Groot, Aniek van Koot, Jinte Bos, and myself. Our team captain was national coach Amanda Hopmans. We first had a few training days with the other Dutch teams in Antalya.

The World Team Cup concept is roughly the same as the Billien Jean King Cup and the Davis Cup. When you play a match against a country, you play two singles matches and a doubles match. We won our first meetings against Turkey and Colombia 3-0. This put us through to the semi-finals, which we defeated 3-0 against France. During these three matches, I played doubles with Jinte Bos. In the final, we played against the Japanese team. After the singles matches, the score was 1-1, so it all depended on the doubles. After a long, exciting match, we ultimately won! We became world champions! What a special experience! Then, of course, it was time to celebrate this beautiful title. Besides our team, the Dutch quads team had also won a gold medal!
